Which category should I choose as a beginner?
As a beginner you should choose the OPEN category. Here the weights are lowest (women: sandbag 10 kg, wall balls 4 kg; men: sandbag 20 kg, wall balls 6 kg) and most participants are first- or second-time competitors. Open is not easy – expect 75–120 min total time for first competition. AVOID: Pro and Elite categories are for experienced Hyrox athletes. Relay is a good alternative if you're not ready for solo.
What should I bring to a Hyrox competition?
Packing list for Hyrox competition: MANDATORY: Race number (received at on-site registration), timing chip (received on site). CLOTHES: Running tights/shorts, compression socks recommended, short sleeve/singlet. SHOES: Hybrid shoes work best (running + gym function). Popular: INOV-8, Nike Metcon, Reebok Nano. ACCESSORIES: Gloves (optional – helps for sled push and farmer's carry), belt (optional – core support). FOOD: Light breakfast 2–3 hours before start. Gels/bars during competition. OTHER: Warm jacket for warm-up, towel, extra socks.
What is the race day strategy for Hyrox?
Race day strategy for Hyrox: WARM-UP: 20 min light jog + mobility. Practise 2–3 stations lightly. RUNNING PACING: Run the first 4 km at comfortable pace (don't sprint!). Reserve energy for the stations. STATIONS: Find a steady pace you can maintain throughout. Avoid running out of energy mid-station. MENTAL: Hyrox is hard – expect to want to quit. That's normal. Keep going. WATER STATIONS: Drink at all available water stations. FINISH: Final 2 km you can increase pace. TIP: Beginners should prioritise finishing with good form over time.
How much does it cost to enter Hyrox?
Hyrox entry prices (2025/2026): Open solo: approx. 900–1200 NOK. Pro/Elite: approx. 1000–1300 NOK. Doubles: approx. 1400–1800 NOK per team. Relay (4–8 people): approx. 2500–4000 NOK per team. EARLY REGISTRATION: Buy early (6–12 months in advance) for lowest price – prices rise closer to the event. INCLUDED: Race number, timing, medal on completion, finisher t-shirt at most events.
Can I watch Hyrox as a spectator in Oslo?
Yes! Hyrox is a fantastic spectator sports event. TICKETS: Spectator tickets are cheaper than participant tickets – approx. 100–200 NOK. Check hyrox.com for available spectator spots. EXPERIENCE: You can follow runners through all 8 stations and 8 running legs. The atmosphere is fantastic – loud music, commentator and thousands of participants. BEST SPOTS: Station 8 (Wall Balls) and the finish zone are the best places to stand. TIP: Hyrox events last all day – runners start in waves from morning to evening. Check the start time of the person you're cheering for.
